Community-Led Upcycling and Empowerment in Cairo
Turning broken tiles into something new, one piece at a time.
At Romã, community service is where our belief in upcycling begins. Before it is a craft or a product, upcycling is a way of seeing value in what others throw away, and the best place to share that idea is with the people around us.
In Yasmin 7, Cairo, we bring women and children together in a safe, guided space where safety comes first in everything we do. Working side by side, they learn to turn everyday waste into crafts that are genuinely beautiful and useful. Along the way, they pick up practical skills and a real sense of what their hands can make.
The goal reaches beyond the workshop. Each piece they create can be sold, turning discarded materials into a source of pride and a step toward a sustainable income. It is a small loop with a big meaning: less waste, more confidence, and a community that grows stronger together.
